Since we are covered in ice here in Dallas and Spring Break is just a couple of weeks away I can't help but think of the colorful seasons coming up. This beautiful painting by Stephanie Lessing is so bright and vibrant that it fills me with joy and hope for the warmer weather ahead. You may remember when I introduced you to Stephanie's work here. Well, ever since I saw this painting in person I can't stop thinking about it and so it inspired today's very.colorful.outfit. Can we start with the skirt? Uhm, I haven't seen such a pretty floral in a very long time. I just love the color combination. The top is simple and chic and could easily become a summer staple to wear with everything from shorts to jeans.

I was never very sure of wearing something entirely made up of sequins...but then I saw this blue dress (on sale!!). With that beautiful silhouette and perfect blue hues I think I may need to reconsider. Do you all have your holiday outfits planned? I have a few holiday dresses ( you know- red plaid, gold and black, or Christmassy green) that I kind of rotate year-in and year-out. But it would be fun to get a new dress this year. And this one you could even wear for New year's again. And wait till you see the back! It is very pretty.
[ painting by Jenny Prinn | sweatshirt | jeans | shoes | earrings | clutch ]
I just love Jenny Prinn's work. I discovered her via Serena and Lily's beautifully curated art shop. It turns out that most paintings I liked from here are hers. She also sells some of her work directly from her website. Her use of color is magical and so this gray and yellow painting inspired today's outfit. The combination of yellow and gray is, to me, one of the most elegant color combinations for both home and fashion. When I saw this clutch I knew it would fit right in. For the cooler fall weather there is nothing that I like more than comfortable, cozy and chic outfits that are easy and comfortable.
I just adore Lulie Wallace's work. I love her sense of color and composition. This tablescape inspired this fall floral outfit today. To transition some of your spring and summer dresses to fall just add a light jacket and darker shoes that have a more "fall" feel to them like these amazing Aquazzura heels. You know I love these shoes because I keep blogging about them right?
I'm still in this blue and white state of mind, quite obsessed actually (#i'msorrynotsorry) and even though this post started being all about the dress (so cute right?) it really then became all about the mother of pearl necklace. It is SPECTACULAR on. I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful this necklace is one you try it on. The mother of pearl just brightens up your face and makes you look beautiful. I tried it on at the store and had I not been saving up for my upcoming vacation it would have come home with me. Elegant and fresh is all I have to say about that. Also, the amazing Paul Andrew snakeskin heels are on sale!

I'm so excited to share this new art find with you all today. I came across these beautiful floral photographs by Ashley Woodson Bailey on Pinterest and I just had to share. She has a fabulous collection of highly saturated photos with really amazing colors. She sells them in different sizes (the largest being 40x60), which is perfect depending on your decorating needs. I think my chartreuse colored powder bathroom could benefit from a large scale print of one of these flowers. The combination of colors, scale and composition really brings the flowers to life. The works so powerful and exciting. You have to see all of them here, but be careful you are going to want one asap!
What is black and white and REaD all over? This cute outfit of course! (although if you answered 'newspaper' you are also correct). I'm starting to take a look at the Spring collections and my closet needs for warmer weather. I'm adoring these cute black, white and red finds that go so perfectly together. I mean- the earrings! Tassel perfection.

I don't really like going out on Valentine's Day because all the restaurants are crowded and the food is never really great. I actually love cooking a special meal at home this day, but in case you are looking for some outfit inspiration I could not get over this pink dress....so SPECTACULAR. The structure is just amazing and these sweet heels are so feminine and romantic. I really adore them. Too bad I have fat ankles (I do! ) but they would look amazing on all of you, I just know it!
[ Book- The Ping Pong Diplomacy | sweater | jeans | sneakers | socks | bag | ping pong paddles ]
I have so many exciting things for you today I don't even know where to start! The most important one is that one of my family members who is a well-known author, Nicholas Griffin, has published his latest novel, Ping Pong Diplomacy: The secret history behind the game that changed the world. We are all beyond excited and are so filled with pride. Nick is always educating us while keeping us highly entertained with his fabulous novels. I received my copy only a few days ago. So, even though I just started reading it I'm very intrigued. Why? I had no idea ping-pong, politics, and spies were ever intertwined in real life. This novel gives us the historical facts enveloped in an exciting plot that changed the history of the relationship between China and the US. The New York Times has this great article on it you can read here. I had to share this exciting news with you and what better way to celebrate than to bring you a sporty outfit (you can easily play ping-pong with) to mark the occasion. So, I made a 'book to outfit' post instead of the usual 'art to outfit' post. Playing ping-pong is the new way of spreading good will. Play it!

We had a wonderful Christmas with our family and now am mentally preparing to receive the New Year (oh as well as dieting a bit before our last big celebration on New Year's Eve!) So there is a lot of list making going on of things to do and organize as I try to figure out my major goals for the New Year- personal, work related, blog related, home related, even technology related. I should print these lists out and laminate them so I don't skip over anything. In the meantime....what are your big NYE plans? Do you have any fun traditions? We love getting dressed up and going out to dinner and ordering tons of champagne! I saw this dress and fell in love with it- talk about a classic LBD so the art to outfit New year's Eve edition was born.
I haven't done these in a while, an Art to Outfit post I mean. I was especially inspired by this painting by Aleksandra Getsko (she has other fabulous works you can see here) as I was browsing Saatchi Online. Have you browsed this site? It's incredible! I had seen some images pinned to pinterest but was always intimidated by it and assumed it was very expensive art, but it's not really. It has a great mix of prices. This piece for example is $700. Not sure why I was attracted to this piece so strongly. I really like the simplicity of the lines and the composition, yet it reflects great strength, in my opinion. I'm usually drawn to very organic abstract pieces but I'm really enjoying the structure and orderliness here.
Yellow and burgundy- an unlikely combination...or is it a likely one? The inspiration for this post began with the dropdead burgundy skirt, Oh my! If you knew me in real life you would know this skirt is SO ME! Classic, but with an added twist...love the color, the cut, love it all. Ok the booties are a pretty close second. And I have to say that painting really has fabulous colors. And of course I'm really digging the tote bag with the sort of dipped in gold quality, similar to the edgy earrings. And the more sophisticated take on the friendship bracelet is kind of cute, I have to say.
I love summer and a good sale. I do, a perfect combination. So, of course I love all these summer sales going on. It's the perfect time to scoop up some last minute goodies that you may have been coveting previously at much better prices. I have been admiring Tibi's vibrant prints all summer long. Especially the trompe l'oeil graphic prints that are just all the rage right now. This dress is so cute! and the fact that it's on sale makes it even cuter!
A cute, elegant, summer and modern outfit inspired by this refreshing swimming scene by artist Monica Ramos. (The sandals are on sale!!) Minty fresh is the name of the game today.
When I received an email from Moda Operandi and their huge sale I immediately logged on to see if certain things that I had been coveting from afar had a more attractive-to-me price. And yes, there were (are) many beautiful things on super sale, especially a lot of precious shoes. But God forbid you thought about the purchase for more than a few minutes because that coveted item would no longer be available. I am rarely an impulse shopper so at least a few minutes of analysys are always in order, but in this case, the few pairs of sandals that I may have purchased immediately sold out (phew! it was kind of a relief!) But alas, I did fall in love with this very practical and chic black and white dress. And it's still available if you can believe it! Its muted coloring made me think of a few paintings I had seen by Kerri Rosenthal. Wao! Her paintings are fabulous. Her abstract pieces are especially appealing to me. So I made this ideal pairing-
The story behind this post starts off with this beautiful painting by Laura Dro. Laura is a very talented artist with such a defined color aesthetic. You need to see her paintings and prints, they will brighten up your life. This painting in particular inspired this colorful outfit. I'm assuming those are peonies and well with them everywhere I turn I knew I just had to post it. You all know I love color and mixing such strong tones is not for everyone, but I think this summery outfit is so cute and wearable.
Can I tell you how obsessed I am with this dress? The fabric, the cut, the look....EVERYTHING! I first saw it in Grace's blog and fell in love with it (there are 2 other versions with similar fabrics that are equally as beautiful) . How practical is this dress? You can wear it for a casual lunch, or even as a bathing suit cover-up but you can even dress it up and wear it to a cocktail party. Its the kind of dress that is good for travelling because of its versatility.
Were the Oscar's fun? I can't wait to watch the highlights later on today and to see the dresses. I missed it!! Can you believe it? Blame it on my new obsession with Downton Abbey (I just finished season two and I could not stop until I did!). Ooohhh so good! I will rely on you to tell me your favorite dresses of the Oscars and any gossip.
In love with this painting by Liza Hathaway which pairs so well with this monochromatic blush outfit. To tell you the truth I just got this shirt and these jeans and am DYING to wear them together. Pretty chic huh?
Happy Friday! Wao! Christmas is right around the corner. We actually celebrate Christmas Eve so the countdown is on. I am done with my holiday shopping which is a relief because I would not want to be in the mall this weekend.
I spotted this beautiful Herve Leger dress (on sale!) and thought it would be perfect for a formal Holiday affair. At the same time I have had this beautiful artwork on my mind and decided they looked beautiful together. Birdaria, the company that makes this canvas has such interesting wall decor options. I had so much fun exploring (you know me and art!) their website. Then, of course, I had to pair the dress up with some 'glam, bam thank you m'am' party shoes. And just to make the outfit a 'wee' bit more festive this necklace brings it down to a playful- I don't take myself too seriously level. Add a little bit of sparkle on the clutch and voila you are a walking, talking spectacle of joy for the holidays!!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I plan on resting and spending time with my beautiful family. I will be taking some days off next week.....but will be peeking in for some holiday cheer.
Wishing you all a safe and healthy holiday!
