The lacquered walls, the colors, the drama...I was thrilled to see Miles Redd's latest project in Southampton. If you are a follower of the blog you know that Miles Redd is probably my favorite interior designer ever. I love gathering all of this fabulous inspiration. The bathroom cabinets are divine, the art in the kitchen is unexpected, the treatment of the trim add interest, and the colorful floors are so much fun...but really the entrance hall is what stole my heart away. This home belongs to OscarPRGirl, Erika Bearman, the voice behind all of Oscar de la Renta's social media. So, its kind of exciting to see her aesthetic.
Happy Tuesday! Happy April! Happy, Happy!! I'm so glad to be back home. I love going on vacation, but I love coming back home. Of course, I'm a bit behind on everything....you know, emails, bills, errands, to-dos.....And of course I won't be stepping on the scale for a few days, so you can add dieting to the list as well! But, we rested and bonded and it was fabulous. So, back to reality and life as usual and blogging.
These Miles Redd curtains have stuck to me like glue since the first time I saw them. You know Miles Redd is one of my favorite designers (remember this post?) and I think everything he does is magnificent, especially the lacquered walls, which must happen sometime in the near future.....and these ruffled curtains.....oh the ruffled curtains.....
Thank you all for your sweet birthday wishes!! I'm such a lucky girl to have such a wonderful husband, amazing daughter, such caring and special parents, such sweet and true friends, and such thoughtful readers. I am blessed. A year older and hopefully a little wiser :)
Something that has been making me happy for a while have been lacquered walls. I know they have been in vogue for a while and many bloggers have blogged about them on and off throughout the last couple of years, but that doesn't mean I can't blog about them as well. I know, been there done that....but I just really LOVE them and would consider them for my future home in a New York minute- Oh the elegance, the glamour, the interest! I feel like the big designers, like Miles Redd, and S.R.Gambrel, have been using lacquered walls plenty, but the mainstream, it seems to me, has not really adopted them as much as I would have thought, which is interesting but kind of nice (so if I ever do mine, my home won't be like everyone else's). The preparation of the wall is very important and takes more work than just regular paint, so this may have something to do with it not being so widespread. Personally, I think they are worth it for all the drama and interest that they add. (If you want some tips I found this blog had some good ones)
As I grapple with the balance of finding design inspiration in magazines and online and making it my own I go back to a WSJ article that I read not too long ago about interior designers and their mentors. This article starts off with Albert Hadley, who mentored Bunny Williams, who mentored Miles Redd who then mentored Nick Olsen where the lineage ends (in the article at least!). It was interesting to read about what they learned from each other. I can imagine the tension between the aesthetic influence they are under and the battle to make their own mark and style. A battle of wonderful inspiration that comes in so many shapes and sizes and transforming into something new, different, and unique that stands on its own.
