One Room Challenge || Linking Participant - Mudroom

April 02, 2015

I'm so excited because I'm participating in the One Room Challenge Linking Participants!!  The One Room Challenge was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago where she lines up twenty very talented professional bloggers and designers to redo a room in just six weeks.  They share their progress every Wednesday.  And the Linking Participants (anyone can join!) report their progress on Thursdays.  And so because today is Thursday we begin!

To give you some background I have participated twice already in the One Room Challenge.  Last fall I did my walk-in closet.  You can see the full reveal here, but here is a photo so you can get a sense for it.

And I worked on my family room as well. (Full reveal here)

I'm just thrilled to participate as a linking participant this time around.  It will be fun and more relaxing for sure.  Because finishing a room in six weeks is quite the feat!  Plus I will have more time to cheer everyone on. Let me tell you about the room I chose to design-

My Mudroom.  I had been wanting to finish it for quite a while but it got pushed aside for various reasons.  But there is nothing like the One Room Challenge to motivate you to get it done here and now.  I'm excited to share with you all my journey, which holds me accountable. So, here it is.  The dreaded before photos (taken with my iPhone).  It's a blank canvas really.

I want this tiny space to be practical.  I need hooks for jackets, umbrellas, backpacks, and bags.  I need a small bench to take shoes or boots off. I'm already in the lookout for some sort of chic container to store shoes which I want to go under the table that needs to hold keys and receipts.  So many receipts accumulate in my entry.  Is it just me?  And just random things in general.  I want this little space to be practical but super chic.  it needs to tie in fabulously with my super amazing kitchen and family room which are right next door.

Next week I will share with you some inspiration images.  Now go check out the other One Room Challenge Linking Participants and/or The One Room Challenge Participants.

  3. Oh Albertina! I can't wait to see what you do with this space. How fortunate to have a mudroom. All the things we drop as we come in the door get dumped in the living room or on the dining table - including the wad of receipts you talked about! I've loved your last two spaces so very much. Can't wait to see how you transform this space. You always have the best artwork finds too!

  19. I'm excited to see what you come up with! Can you tell me more about your doors? The trim almost looks painted. I like how simple they are. Are they custom or can you give a source? You're starting with a beautiful blank slate!

    1. Hi Elizabeth,
The doors are custom. They are solid wood doors and the carpenter just did special cuts for us. I'm glad you like them. They are modern and simple. I just love them!
