Happy Columbus Day
October 14, 2013
Happy Columbus day weekend! We had such an exciting weekend as Little
Miss A. lost her first tooth. Oh my! We don't really have a tooth
fairy come visit us in this home but a little mouse instead....El Ratoncito Perez. This tradition of the little mouse began in Madrid in the late 1890s when writer Luis Coloma was commissioned to write a story to Alfonso XIII (who was king from birth) as he had just lost a tooth. It is interesting how traditions
originate and get woven into our daily lives. Little Miss A even went to bed extra early tonight so he could come right away. I have been polling parents about what the too fairy's going rate is nowadays and I notice a great discrepancy. In some households she will bring a silver dollar, in others $20 dollars per tooth! Some tooth fairies even bring toys! The first tooth usually brings in a higher rate than the others and on average kids receive $3.7 per tooth (per a survey conducted by Visa Inc.) I can't wait to wake up tomorrow and find out what the little mouse brought!
What is the going rate in your home for a tooth?

Congrats Little A! Our little A has lost her first three within two weeks so we've had many tooth fairy visits. $3.50 is crazy town for a six year old who doesn't fully grasp how much things cost. We...I mean the tooth fairy gave her a silver dollar and she was thrilled out of her mind.
ReplyDeleteTotal cuties!!
ReplyDeletewhat a cute story! I love the idea of having a mouse come and love to hear the different "tooth fairy" methods from different traditions. My mom was born in Germany and they have a similar mouse and I've also heard that in japan the children throw teeth on the roof! I'm not a parent yet, but I would say $5-$10/tooth if children are supposed to lose 20 teeth over a couple years.

They are so sweet!!!! Back when my kids were little I think we gave them a dollar (but that was a long time ago!) I love the story about the mouse!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day, Albertina!
So cute!! Wow $20 is the going rate? I'd like to be a kid today. I think I got $1 for each tooth that I lost. Congrats to Miss A!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pictures. And $20/tooth... wowza! I think I remember getting a couple dollars. I dont have any kids yet either, but I agree with $5/tooth.
ReplyDeleteI love that version! Our tooth fairy keeps it simple with a $1 per tooth. Maybe it will go up when they get older.
ReplyDelete$20?!?! I was lucky to get a quarter! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you posted pics of your little ones- love seeing/learning more about your family! I was lucky to get a $1 under my pillow but it was the 80s. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Yay for the loss of the first tooth! Amazing what the tooth fairy brings these days! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe little mouse tradition is so interesting! At my house it was $5 a tooth, but if a 5 wasn't on hand it varied from more to less. Losing that first tooth is such a big deal -- how adorable!
ReplyDeleteHow cute, I love the idea of a little mouse! When I was a kid I would get $5, but that was a very long time ago!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh first tooth!!!! Yeah, I really don't know how much would it be appropriate, but $20 sounds a little bit too much? I guess everyone does what they feel comfortable with ;) She looks adorable!
ReplyDeleteLittle Miss A is so cute! And I like to learn about those stories behind some "traditions".
ReplyDeleteIn France we also have a little mouse that come to visit the child who lost a tooth and she brings money or sweets.
she's super cute!!!! our's wished for a Lego toy - so the fairy ended giving him one :)
ReplyDeleteCutie pies! Our going rate is $1 per tooth but varies depending on how much the Tooth Fairy has in her wallet!
ReplyDeleteWell it really depends in our house. Sometimes the first tooth deserved a small gift certificate to toys r us.:) Prices really fall after that.
ReplyDeleteHow cute!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. The first tooth was special and apparently, all the grandparents kicked in, too. Embarrassing. All those years, all those teeth....and then I got caught. My daughter said "I always thought it was dad". I never get credit for anything.
ReplyDeleteFreaking hilarious linda!
DeleteIf he isn't generous, I'm hunting him down!
ReplyDeleteDang! I got a dollar per tooth. Little A may make a small fortune off her teeth. I'd go to be early too for $20 bucks ;) Oh lets be serious, i'd go to bed early just because I like sleeping.
ReplyDeleteOmg this is SO cute!! And those are the cutest skirts ever!
