ORC || Daughter's Room (Week 3)

April 21, 2016

It's Thursday again and so I get to fill you in on the progress I have made in my daughter's room for the One Room Challenge Guest Participants.  The One Room Challenge was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago where she lines up twenty very talented professional bloggers and designers to redo a room in just six weeks.  They share their progress every Wednesday (see my past projects here and here).  And the Guest Participants (anyone can join!) report their progress on Thursdays.  If you are just tuning in for the first time you can see week 1, week 2.  This week 3 has been pretty productive as well, but there is plenty to do.  I think I'm pacing myself correctly and should be fine to finish the room in the remaining three weeks.

As you can see the moldings are up!!  They are a picture frame trim in one quarter round.  It's thin and simple and really adds that WOW factor.  The gold and mint green are fabulous together.  I have had this print from the Albertina Museum in Vienna since I was 12 or 13. It hung in my childhood bedroom and now hangs in my daughter's.  If you don't know this, we are both Albertinas.  So, the print takes special meaning for us. Also, we hung something from the ceiling.....I wonder it could be?

I want to show you what it is but I think I will leave it as surprise for the reveal.  My daughter is in love with this thing and so are all her friends!  It is so cute to see a young girl excited about furniture. I do wish the chain were gold though.

My next project is getting new fabric for this table skirt.  I was thinking of white pique with some blue, pink or green trim.  What do you think?  (Sorry this is an old photo and should have taken one with the new headboards and trim) With the mint green walls and the blue, white, pink and green bed skirt, and blue and white rug what do you suggest?  I was leaning toward green? I found a local source to make the table skirt and bed skirt.  I am awaiting their quote but my friend tells me they are fabulous.  I will let you know! I am really excited to try them.

I know visually this post is not that exciting, but I promise it is coming together nicely and you will have wonderful photos for the reveal!  Little, by little, right?

Ok, let's cross off the list-

1 ||  Find material for the bed skirt and make the skirt (found source, waiting for quote)
2 ||  Add trim? and if so, what color should it be? GOLD!!! Painted.DONE!!!
3 || Find fabric for the night-table and make the skirt. White pique.....but what about trim?
4 || Art? Little by little this is falling into place.  One piece at framer's.  I will talk more next week about this but I commissioned a painting and it is looking fabulous.
5 || Desk? My parent's are passing down a GORGEOUS secretary desk to their granddaughter and it is sensational.  It must be about 40 years old and has such a great color- between orange and red. I had forgotten to show you! Here it is-

6 ||  Lighting.  I would love to have a chandelier in here.  And I found it!!  This was so hard, but I do think it is exactly right for this space.  I will give you more details next time.
7 || Curtains....we have blackout shades and HUGE windows. I don't think that is an expense I want to get into.
8 ||  Reading Chair

Now visit the other participants....should be fun to see what everyone is up to!
