An Upper East Side Gem || Billy Cotton

October 04, 2016

I love walking around New York at night and looking into the apartments and homes that have their lights on to see the decor.  Most of the times you don't see much and just get a glimpse of a pendant or chandelier, maybe a some bookshelves, the color of a wall, or just a partial ceiling molding.  This is one of the apartments I would have been intrigued by.  This beauty was designed by Billy Cotton.  Billy studied industrial design in the Pratt Institute.  But he has expanded his skill set and now designs furniture and lighting, and of course does interior design and architecture as well.  Let's see more of this beautiful space-

This living room is elegant and simple. I'm loving the black and gold art deco Pierre Frey curtains. And the amazing marble fire place was originally from The Plaza Hotel.  They have an identical one in their dining room to create a sense of continuity.

Billy found the chinoiserie coffee table on the street right outside of the building! Score! I always envy people who find great furniture lying around like that.

Billy designed the brass cabinet hardware. Swoon! I love the grey cabinets combined with the gold hardware.

Those brass sconces are from Urban Electric Company. I think the wall and bookshelf color is cozy and refreshing at the same time.

A good reading nook is always essential in a home.  And having a Serge Mouille floor lamp just makes it even better.

I love this trick of adding a tapestry behind a bed to serve as a "headboard".  I remember loving  a bedroom Michael Smith designed in a similar fashion.  Billy loves his beds made like you see above and thinks the pillow craze has to stop. He doesn't understand why we are putting so many pillows in our beds.  He is not a fan.

Oh and the apartment has a wrap around terrace, which you can get a peek of in this last photo. To see more of Billy's wonderful portfolio go here.
