Currently Coveting || An Oriental Rug

August 26, 2013

As of late I have been obsessing over oriental rugs.  I currently have a beautiful one in my husband's library (aka the man cave!), Little Miss A. has a miniature one in her library (aka the reading nook) and I'm now thinking I need one for our entryway.

Sometimes, out of the blue, the stars align.  I was contacted by Medallion Rugs offering to send an  area rug my way! They have such an amazing array of area rugs from sweet and pretty to classic, to interesting, and some fabulous bold ones as well.  Of course, this just fed my oriental rug fantasy and I scoured all my interior design pins to gather some inspiration of how these works of art embellish any room in the house.

Let's start with the office.  Don't you think you would be so much more efficient and productive with pure luxury at your feet like this cute girl?  These classic burgundy, blue, and black colors are so elegant.  Take a look at these area rugs which have a similar style.  I love the contrast of the deep red tones paired with a white desk.

And of course these area rugs are ideal for the living room. I love it paired with more contemporary pieces.

And of course a dining room is instantly more elegant with an oriental area rug.

An unexpected place for an oriental rug, but the kitchen greatly benefits from the look.  Adding one instantly integrates the kitchen to the rest of the house.

And of course they can dress up a bathroom, bedrooms, and can even be used to decorate and create a very elegant ambiance for an event like a wedding or formal dinner.

In today's disposable society with so many things meant to last only a few years its nice to invest in pieces you can pass on to future generations.  There is nothing like an antique oriental rug that can easily become an heirloom.  Here are the ones that tickled my pickle-  classic style , manly and subduedsweet and girly, light and contemporary, geometric and fun, and cool and laidback.

I'm really intrigued about this world of oriental rugs and plan on doing more research for you. I will keep you posted.  Are oriental rugs something you would like to incorporate into your home?

  11. We've got a handful of oriental rugs that I've been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time for. A couple I got at estate sales and I still do a happy dance when I see them. They're definitely one of a kind pieces that you more than likely will NOT regret buying!

  20. Yes! An antique oriental rug heirloom is a great idea. My mom had several pieces and she gave me a couple when I got married. I try to take care of them very well and now that I have a daughter of my own, I plan to give it to her in the future too.

    1. That photo is from Emerson Fry NYC (a clothing company) so they don't sell home items....so I'm not sure we can know where it's from exactly...You can email them with the photo and ask! Someone might be able to help you!
