My Life || Kokeshi Doll Party

I'm pooped!  But what an exciting Birthday weekend it was.  Here are some shots of Little Miss A's party that was small and adorable.  I love how kids are so thrilled with their birthdays.  Birthday and Christmas are the two best days of the year. The theme?  Kokeshi dolls. Hmmm...what are those? Well they are Japanese dolls made out of wood with a simple trunk and larger heads. So cute! Let me share with you some images of the special occasion.  But really, place close attention to the paper lanterns which I was so happy with....hopefully it will spark some DIY ideas for any of your upcoming parties.

Yes, the pinata was taller than the birthday girl.  It was precious and a real hit (ha! literally!).  My friend Paola from Unique Party made an amazing meringue Kokeshi doll cake with dulce de leche filling that was divine.   And here are my four easy tips for your own Kokeshi doll party-

I was really so happy with the way the lanterns turned out.  They were beautiful, everyone loved them and they were so easy to make.  Those Via Blossom Flower cups (which are originally meant to hold chocolates) make the best additions to these lanterns.  They have so many colors (even leopard and zebra!) to chose from that you could pretty much make any color combination.  If I had more time I would have loved to add these parasols to my decorations as well and I would have also made these Rice Krispy and Swedish Fish sushi for the kiddos  I mean really?! People are so creative!  Oh and the favors are Momiji Dolls from a local toy store.

The tablecloth and napkins I re-used from her last birthday party which I tie dyed myself here. That has been a great time and money investment because I use the whole set very often.

And for those of you wondering about my Oreo Cake concoction- It was dangerously amazing.  I will post the recipe tomorrow.
