One Room Challenge || Week Four- ART
October 22, 2014
The gold trim is up and so are the shades (if you follow me on Instagram the shades are gray not green! I think the color came across wrong in that photo). Anyway, my closet is looking fabulous! If you are new and don't know what the One Room Challenge is it was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago. In this challenge she lines up twenty talented interior designers and professional
bloggers to redo a room in their home in just six weeks- we update you once a week on
Wednesdays. And today is Wednesday! (in case you missed them here are this round's previous posts- one, two, and three).
To
refresh your memory I am doing my walk-in closet that has lilac walls. Today I will be sharing with you all the wonderful works of art I will proudly display here. I'm so excited about every single piece. Let's start with this beautiful nude by Reagan Geschardt. Isn't she perfect? I can't wait to meet her. She arrives tomorrow!
It all started when I went looking through one of my favorite online shops, The Pink Pagoda. If you are a regular reader you know I adore Jennifer's prints and own several of them, plus lately she has been representing some amazing artists, so I figured this would be the perfect place to start. I was looking for wall inspiration for my closet and spotted some interesting nudes- like this one
A 'nude' piece would be ideal in my walk-in closet. Absolutely! Not only was the idea clever, but it also tied in perfectly with the feminine and romantic vibe I wanted in my space. Their poses are exactly what I liked since they are delicate without being too revealing. And the dynamic brushstrokes just make the pieces come alive but the colors in these two options weren't quite right for my lilac walls. So Jennifer put me in touch with the artist, Reagan, who was so wonderful to work. We emailed a bit about my closet plan, the color palette I had in mind and the type of of pose I wanted. And she came up with that beauty up there. I think she will look amazing against my lilac walls. I think she is so talented and am just thrilled with the final result. Thursday can't come fast enough! I'm dying to see my painting in person. See more of Reagan's beautiful work here.
When I was brainstorming about what other pieces of art I wanted in my closet I read this post by Christine Dovey where she announces the launch of her art consultancy services where she helps clients find art for their homes. If you know Christine then you know the amazing eye she has for finding the most unique pieces that feel so exactly at home, while making a statement, at the same time. I just love the interest she adds to any space with her choices. For example-
Christine has an amazing talent of finding that perfect piece and always sources such unique pieces. I just love all these photos of her work. So, of course I emailed her right away to see if she could help me find a cool photograph for my closet that would add a bit of edge to my space. I gave her some guidance in terms of look and feel, budget and size, and of course I gave her my plan for the closet. She sent me some amazing options with boards so I could visualize what the piece would look like in my space. It was so hard to finalize my selection because she offered such beautiful and striking options that I could not make-up my mind, but this one below is the winner. It is from an amazing new online store called These Fine Walls. They have not officially launched yet but bookmark them because their photographs are amazing and you will want to own a few. I promise.
I will also have a pretty piece by Katie Craig similar to the one below. You may remember her as I recently featured her here on the blog. I found her while searching through Minted's website and noticed she was a local Dallas artist. We ended up meeting for lunch, which was such a treat because she is the sweetest. And guess what? She is getting married this week! The acrylic on paper piece she made for me is currently at the framer's.
And I could not have a lilac and gold closet without having a photo of Paris! When I saw this magical photo by Molly I fell in love. She took it from the Opera House two years ago when she traveled through Europe by herself and stayed in Paris for two weeks. This photo feels so timeless because all the modern cars are blurred so you get to really appreciate the architecture, the street layouts and the amazing Parisian lamp posts. Molly is a sweet blogger friend whose photography is astounding. She recently opened her etsy shop to showcase her beautiful photography from her travels. You will love her work. This one too is at the framer's.
I can't wait to get everything and start playing around with these beauties.
