I sometimes look at catalogs with my daughter.  We talk about things we like and things we don't as much.  It's cute seeing what catches her eye.  Of course, if its pink and sparkly chances are she wants it.  So when we talk about her bigger girl room aside from wanting zebras somewhere (I'm glad there are some cute fabrics and wallpaper that will do the trick) we don't agree on much (ie "No we will have no peace-sign fabric upholstered headboards").  So, I have tried channeling her inner designer into a more hidden and smaller space- Her future 'small' but nonetheless- 'walk-in-closet'.

I have a DIY waiting to be put together because I need some supplies from Ikea.  Since its a bit far I really plan my visits there and these are the four things I'm currently dreaming about from Ikea.  Aren't these so cool?  I would be so happy to come back home with any one of these (or all four?!) Here they are in action-

Nope...they are legs specifically designed for IKEA furniture! Brilliant (and I meant it in that British accent).  PrettyPegs is the company behind this fun and much needed concept.  It was started by a Swedish couple (of course) because they could not stand the look of IKEA furniture legs.  Had you heard of this company before?  Have I been living under a rock because I only just came across this last weekend.  

What a cute little punch they add to any IKEA piece of furniture. There motto is "Shoe your furniture".  Clever. 

I love all these companies being born out of a design necessity.  They are making our rooms a bit more beautiful one piece at a time.

A special thanks to Molly and Sally of A PIECE of TOAST who gave us a shout out in their blog yesterday (here).  It was so fun to meet up with Molly for coffee and great conversation. We love their blog- its so inspiring and witty.  It is a daily must read for us.  And the best part is their sweet voice and keen eye for choosing the most beautiful photographs and best subject matter.  I love everything they cover.  They have gathered an amazing cult following, us included!  Go on over, I guarantee you will love it.

First, up, I love this pink parson's desk against that wild blue wall color.  And do you recognize the dressers to either side?  Yup! Ikea.  They are the infamous Rast Dressers (remember my DIY?).  Well, Naomi followed pretty much the same steps except she added overlays.  If you don't know about overlays, you are going to love this.  There is a company called O'verlays that sell various overlays which you can use for different Ikea pieces to dress them up (what  a fabulous idea).  I think Naomi's are adorable.

I was very happy with the result, although it wasn't as cheap as I had anticipated. I had to buy several paint brushes, the knobs, paint, primer, wood stain, and polyurethane to seal the wood stain in. Maybe I should have gone to the thrift store to see what kind of night tables they had there! But they look cute and they are sturdier than what I had expected. And I was proud to have made them myself.
