A sickness in Gold
October 03, 2012
Please
help me. I have a sickness. I can't stop thinking about gold/shiny
things. You have probably noticed with my posts like this one, this one and even this one
that gold/brass has been on my mind. I want my door hardware to be
brushed gold and all the furniture I like lately has gold (see images
above and below). I love spray painting anything gold like I did here and here. I actually have to control myself. I pin anything that involves a gold leafing pen. Really, this is serious.
So, I'm starting to worry, is this a passing trend? Is it a classic look? If I invest in pieces with gold are they going to date my home 5-10-20 years from now? What about gold hardware like door knobs, hinges, faucets? What are your thoughts? Please help me.

I have the same sickness!
ReplyDeleteHahaha I'm on the same bandwagon! Just got some gold paint and I'm painting everything! I can't stop it! I think gold is a classic look, but I guess the love or hate relationship comes with trends?
ReplyDeleteGold and brass will never get old in my book. As you can tell, I have the same passion for this color! I adore those benches:)

great minds!
Deleteoy vey, I share this sickness, and I've always hated gold! Never even liked gold jewelry and now I'm obsessing over it as well. I'd go with a transitional piece like the stools, at the very least you could spray over the legs in a few years. lol. Happy hump day!
ReplyDeleteThis sickness is spreading around the blogosphere and design world! I hope it's not just a passing craze because I've been wanting everything accented with gold lately! And if I could come up with the funds that desk would be mine! Maybe a DIY project?
ReplyDeletei really really enjoy gold too. isnt it funny how when you are in the blogland, you get SO caught up in obsessions and finding funds to get things you just have to have!? sadly, ive made a few mistakes that way. but on the upside, i know about tons of things i would have never found on my own. just more stuff to covet :)
ReplyDeleteclassic look! west elm has a beautiful vintage looking gold framed mirror right now that i have a feeling you'd love!
ReplyDeleteIve got the bug, too. It really never left me from years ago. I never really converted all the way to silver, so I'm so happy it's back!

I LOVE gold/brass and always have. I kept the brass everywhere through the nickel/silvertone phase. The warmth of the gold just works so much better for me. The trend has me wanting to add more!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE gold. I think it's way more classic than silver-y finishes, and warms up the home in the best way! I don't think the awesomeness of gold is going anywhere...indulge!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reassurance. Deep down I know this is true, but the fact that I start seeing it everywhere makes me nervous because we could all get sick of it too fast...kind of like chevron....I want gold to stay under the radar.....so I can enjoy it forever..ha!
DeleteYou don't really want to be cured, do you? It's a good sickness to have...we all benefit from your posts :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I completely agree - I can't stop thinking of gold lately! Love it!

Sorry but I can't help you! I have the same obsession! So I understand you.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for a brass coofee table and maybe a chandelier too for my living room to add chic and luxury...
Anyway, the hot pink and brass stools of the first pictures are gorgeous ♥

I remember years ago {well, like 5 years ago} working on a house and using some gold and even though it's not my favorite metal, I do find myself liking it. I think that an antique-ish gold will stay in style forever but maybe some of the brighter ones will have a shorter shelf life. I as long as you don't go floor to ceiling in bright and shiny gold it will always be okay. It may not be the current trend but it shouldn't look terribly dated. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a sickness I hope I never recover from! Gold for me is a lot like animal prints and bacon - makes everything better. When I painted my kitchen cabinets a few years ago I added all brass hardware much to the dismay of my husband and friends. Side eye to them! Enjoying your blog tremendously!
ReplyDeleteYou make my day with your comments! Thank you!!
