Happy Friday! Thanks for all your wonderful support on yesterday's post. You are all so sweet and I appreciate you letting me use the post as therapy. Thinking things through like that really helps me. Well, it's official for us- school is out and summer is here. And still on my mind is lots of color. White and either black or navy stripes automatically remind me of summer, perhaps because of their nautical nature. This cute lobster bottle opener screams summer- an ideal hostess gift for any summer cookout parties you are invited to. The cute little black and white dress can be a year-round staple if styled right. And, please, who doesn't need a bell. I think it would be so nice to be laying by the pool reading interior design magazines and once you realize you are out of lemonade you ring your bell, naturally to call for more....oooohh my imagination does run wild with this bell.
Yesterday was the last day of school for Little Miss A. One of her classmates, a sweet and beautiful girl, has a mother who is losing her battle to Cancer. I think she has a few weeks left to live. Her dad is so strong and so tender with his little girl. I couldn't help but tear-up watching them as he filmed her saying "Hi Mommy" so he could later show his wife. A five year old should not have to lose her mom. I'm an adult, and I don't know what I would do without my mother. All day I have been extremely aware of how fortunate I am. I count on so many blessings. And being healthy is a very important one. I hope Little Miss A. has a mommy for a very long, long time. We really do learn a lot from each other. I pulled some of my latest photos of small moments with big lessons that my daughter and I have shared together in the last few weeks.
I needed some color today after a very gloomy day here in Dallas. I rounded up some colorful beauties that have been on my mind. Let's start with this daring scarf please! It pretty much has all of my favorite things- lots of color and pompoms on steroids!! So cute! I bet it looks fab as a bathing suit cover-up as well!! And ever since I saw Jamie sporting a simple leather clutch with this cute bag charm I keep thinking I need it. This is the look she had going on-
How was your weekend? I hope it was as perfect as you envisioned it while you were planning (isn't this the ultimate test?) I'm so glad to be back home. New York was fabulous and really I'm having withdrawal symptoms already so I hope to plan a trip back soon. So while I was there and in the middle of a terrible rainstorm I managed to stop by the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse. The last few years I have been reading about it, so it was fun to finally go and see the different styles as each room is decorated by a different design firm. I pulled here some of my favorite shots-
Happy Friday! I can't believe its Memorial Day weekend! This year is just breezing by. I hope you have some fun plans in the works that involve grilling, sitting by the pool, and eating tons of ice cream. This week one of my cousins graduates so we have some family events this weekend- so celebrations (hence the balloons) are on my mind.
The story behind this post starts off with this beautiful painting by Laura Dro. Laura is a very talented artist with such a defined color aesthetic. You need to see her paintings and prints, they will brighten up your life. This painting in particular inspired this colorful outfit. I'm assuming those are peonies and well with them everywhere I turn I knew I just had to post it. You all know I love color and mixing such strong tones is not for everyone, but I think this summery outfit is so cute and wearable.
I'm beyond excited about this giveaway! One of my favorite companies is offering one lucky reader a gift certificate for $100. And can you guess what fabulous company its from??!! None other than Lulu and Georgia, my go-to for rugs and beautiful accessories. I'm not sure if my love affair with Lulu and Georgia started when my friend Erika announced their launch as she had worked on their branding and website. Or if it started when I got to know some of the fabulous ladies that work there like Michaela and Alexa. But really I think it all started when I saw their rugs! This one in particular has had me quite obsessed.
Afton is the winner of the giveaway! (Number 6- generated by Random.org). I'm travelling and don't have photoshop otherwise I would have posted an image of the random number generator. But I know you all trust me!!
Congrats Afton! I will have Gold and Gray contact you. And thanks so much to Gold and Gray for such a fun and generous giveaway that I know everyone is in love with.
Stick around for another amazing giveaway coming up in a bit!! I like to pamper you! xx
So excited to have the fifth edition of the "We love" series. Here was the last post in the series in case you missed it. To refresh your memory Sam from The Peak of Tres Chic and I will be gathering inspiration under a certain theme a couple of times a month and sharing it with you. Sam will guest post here in my blog and I will post at Sam's. I guess you could say we are swapping for the day. This time around its all about CORAL!!
I have been noticing that tile is getting interesting and fun lately. I feel like it's having a comeback. Companies are creating more beautiful designs and designers are using it in more daring ways. This tile above is so simple but in a small room like this with high ceilings it makes a statement. Here are other great ideas-
Happy Friday friends! Wao, lately it feels like such an accomplishment to get to Friday. Well, it's my husband's birthday this weekend which means we get to have some cake. I'm debating which cake to make for him. It won't be chocolate. We have made too many chocolate ones in the last few weeks (I know that chocolate cake is misleading up there, but it is pretty right?) He loves this lemon olive oil cake that I have made for him many times before and has very quickly devoured, but he also loves this almond cake which I have never made him and would love to try. I will let you know next week which one I chose. (oh and I want to get him one or two of these for on top of his desk).
You may or may not know that my husband is from Spain so we go often to visit family. Our trip is coming up soon and we have all started to daydream about it. My daughter is dying to see her grandma and have churros con chocolate, my husband just wants to sleep, and I'm dying to browse some of my favorite stores and eat many meringues. One of my favorite stores here is Hoss Intropia. Its clothing is sophisticated, modern, and chic all at a very attractive price point (probably around J.Crew prices?). Miguel Palacio who is a well established high-fashion Spanish designer has been doing a collaboration with Hoss Intropia every season for the last few years. It is always pretty fab. And so, when I came accross his apartment I just had to share. After seeing it I know two things, I need a cheetah statue, or two, and Mr. Palacio and I are lighting soulmates. I heart every single one of his lighting options.
I have such a great giveaway for you today!! Lily from Gold and Gray is offering one lucky Mimosa Lane reader a set of three rose wood tassel bracelets! I have been in love with these ever since I first saw them on The Now Stylebook. And now I'm a proud owner of two and never take them off. Lily, whom I had the pleasure of meeting a few weeks ago is the sweetest and prettiest gal you can imagine. And, of course, oh so talented. I have more photos of her designs to show you below. I guarantee you will fall in love with everything.
I can't wait to see the Great Gatsby. I think it has to do with a few of my favorite things- Leo, Art Deco, lavish parties, champagne, and jewelry (and more specifically pearls!). In the 1920s the style was to wear long strands of pearls and so from the images I have seen the movie is filled with beautiful pearl pieces. I think nowadays pearls are thought of as too classic in style for some, but I think this will start to change as jewelers adapt pearls into more modern designs and they get more press (like the Great Gatsby movie!). Plus prices for pearls are currently very good making it easier for them to make it to the mainstream.
When I think of pearls, the first person that comes to mind is Coco Chanel who used to love her pearls and rarely be caught without them. Here are a few of my favorite images of her sporting pearls.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. The weather here was perfection- sunny but cool. And my mother's day was perfection as well. I was able to sleep in until 7:30 a.m. (whaaat??!!) and was awakened by the sweetest of girl kisses and a delicious breakfast that included toast with blueberry happy faces. Life doesn't get better than that! But it does! Later on we picked roses from the garden and ate this cake for dessert (which I keep telling you is a MUST). So, this morning I'm inspired by desk accessories and I wanted to start off the week with some black and white desk inspiration. If you missed my last desk accesories post see it here.
I'm not sure what I would do without my mother. I'm so lucky that I have her and that I get to see her very often. I call her every two seconds and always find so many new things to talk about. She guides me (still!) and comforts me (still!) and is just such a strong and amazing lady. I wish I could properly explain all that she is to me.
I was so excited to see Jamie Herzlinger's latest project. Its all filled with goodness to the core. It is subdued and elegant. I really love the Master bedroom. Especially the little corner with the stacked works of art. But you want to know what my favorite part of the home is?
Today I get to share with you so many beautiful things. There is plenty of eye candy for sure! Remember a few weeks ago I posted on meeting the fabulously talented jewelry designer Elizabeth Showers (here)? Well, earlier this week I got to spend the morning with her and the lovely Charlotte to pick some of my favorite pieces to style and basically play with. It was so difficult as each piece is so thoughtfully designed. I feel very lucky to have had this opportunity to showcase such alluring pieces. Not only is her jewelry beautiful and versatile but the pieces are designed to uplift and inspire. A winning combination in my book.
So excited to have the fourth edition of the "We love" series. This time around its all about WHITE!!
I ate too much, but happy Monday anyway. My weekend was oh so fabulous with plenty of time with friends and family so it really doesn't get better than that....oh yes and it was sunny (although chilly for Dallas) and beautiful. So, today I have feathers on my mind....is it because its Spring and all the cute birdies are making an appeareance in our yard? It's actually because of a DIY I'm concocting involving feathers. I'm really excited about this one. I just hope it turns out how I envision it.
Happy Cinco de Mayo weekend!! I hope you have some fun plans or parties to go to this weekend.
And now for today's Link Love -
A good family friend who is always in the 'know' sent me a fabulous article on the iconic Noe bag by Louis Vuitton. She remembered I had one. It has been in my closet for a good many years waiting for its revival.....and so I think it may be here?
I just adore these traditional all-american Ball Mason preservation jars. They automatically bring back memories of Thanksgiving as our neighbor's would (and still do!) gift us with the most amazing cranberry chutney you have ever tasted preserved in these Ball Jars. Well, I'm helping Ball in their 100th Anniversary celebration as their journey started in 1913 in Muncie, Indiana (can you believe I have friends that live there!) And they are commemorating this jar that revolutionized the home canning process with a beautiful limited-edition Ball Heritage Collection Pint Jars. How am I celebrating this jar anniversary?..... with spray paint and ranunculus of course!!
